Floor Hockey Games with 50 kids in a small gym?!?!?! Yes, Yes we did

First, I taped out 4 mini hockey rinks. Then I place the 8 goals out and divide the students into eight teams. I have them number themselves off 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Not every team has a 7, so I have the students rotate who gets to be 7. Some classes have absences, so then there may only be teams of 6, possibly a few teams with 5. Regardless, you can be flexible with how many are on each team as long as its even. Each team sets one hockey stick in front of their goal and waits behind their goal until they hear their number called. I will go through the numbers 2-3 times and then have the students change up their number for the final 2-3 rounds. The goal of the game is to run out and play hockey against the other students until all the balls (I usually throw out 2-3 balls) have been scored of the time has expired.

After 8-goal hockey, the students already have their number, so I have each team get two more sticks (each team has 3 hockey sticks). I will call out three numbers, those students will come out and play a game against the 3 students across from them. Someone on their court places the ball on the center line and they must wait to start until I blow my whistle. We play for 2-3 minutes, I blow my whistle and the two teams go back to the rest of their group. I call 3 new numbers and we play again. We played for about 15 minutes today and it was AWESOME!! The students loved it! Of course, they don't follow all the rules of hockey but in between games I will talk briefly about something I saw that they should try to do or not do.
